Best Artificial Grass In The UK

Whether you’re looking to refresh your garden space, install pet friendly artificial grass for a four-legged friend, or offer your customers a safer sports facility, we have the best artificial grass for the job.

With the highest quality standards embedded, our artificial turf is designed with the natural look and feel of authentic grass, but doesn’t come with the high price tag and daily maintenance. From speaking with our customers, the most common uses of artificial grass are:

        • For gardens: An artificial grass lawn can be the centrepiece of your garden. No more mowing, weeding, and maintaining real grass lawns which can take a lot of time. With an artificial lawn, no matter how much time passes, it will always look just as good as the day you installed it, with excellent pile retention and UV stabilisation.
        • For pets: All of our artificial grasses are ‘pet-friendly’, but many of ours are pet specific. The products in our dog friendly range are toxin free, latex free, polyurethane backed, and feature oval shaped blades that are kind on paws for your pet’s safety and comfort. With pre-installed drainage holes, your product will remain stain and smell-free.
        • For sports: Artificial grass can be used for sports facilities, including footballgolfcricketrugbytennis, and more. Sports artificial grass can be used in all weathers and is known for its durability and soft underfoot feel, reducing stress injuries and contributing to a safer playing environment. You can pair with artificial grass accessories like a shockpad underlay for extra support.
        • For commercial spaces: From corporate garden courtyards to office rooftops, faux grass can keep any outdoor commercial space looking sleek and modern. With excellent longevity, artificial turf can resist heavy foot traffic while keeping your space neat and polished all year round.

        Artificial Grass Vs Real Grass

If you’re trying to pick between artificial and real grass, here are a few factors to consider when making your decision:

        1. Maintenance: Artificial turf is incredibly low maintenance and only requires a brush down, rake (to keep the fibres springy) and a rinse to look fresh and full in every season. Real grass requires frequent mowing, watering, fertilising, and treatments, and can also change appearance depending on the weather.

        2. Appearance: Real grass can lose its vibrant look if it’s not well maintained and is especially sensitive to weather changes. Artificial lawns are designed to closely resemble natural grass at its best. Our turf features realistic colour shades, brown jute thatch, and soft fibres to mimic the authentic look and feel of a real lawn.

        3. Lifespan: Fake grass is impressively durable and can stand up to harsh weather and heavy usage with a lifespan of around 20 years when properly cared for. Real grass isn’t reliable in this sense and requires lots of maintenance for a consistently fresh look.

        Why Choose Artificial Grass?

At Artificial Grass Direct, our commitment to quality ensures that our artificial grass not only looks natural but also delivers in terms of durability, longevity, safety, and comfort.

One of the main reasons synthetic grass is so popular is because of how easy it is to maintain. Our fake grass can create a visually stunning and authentic outdoor space without the consistent maintenance required for a real grass lawn.

While synthetic grass isn’t real grass, it can still offer several environmental benefits compared to traditional lawns. For example:

        • Water conservation
        • No pesticides or fertilisers
        • Durability
        • Low emission maintenance

        frequently Asked Questions

At Artificial Grass Direct, we want our customers to make informed decisions before buying their dream false grass for any project. So, if you want to learn more about artificial grass: How to install it, and its benefits, take a look at our FAQs below for valuable insights and expert advice from the professionals on our team.

        01

What Do You Put Under Artificial Grass?

You will need to put a base layer of crushed stone, gravel, or compacted soil as a sub base when laying artificial turf. The sub base stabilises the fake turf and helps it drain effectively.

We recommend adding between 50mm and 100mm of sub base, followed by 20-30mm of sharp sand. You can then use either a weed membraneshockpad underlay, or both on top for extra protection, followed by your chosen artificial grass.

You can read more in our extensive guide on what goes under artificial grass?

        02

Do You Need Underlay For Artificial Grass On Concrete?

Yes, using an underlay for artificial grass on concrete is recommended. It helps provide additional cushioning, improves drainage, and enhances the overall comfort and feel of your artificial grass surface.

        03

        How Much Is Artificial Grass?

Our cheapest artificial turf is £4.99 per square metre, and our most expensive artificial grass is £25.99 per square metre. However, for the total cost of an artificial lawn, you will need to take installation charges, base materials, weed membranes, and adhesives or fixings into account.

Check out our full pricing guide here.

        04

Can You Put Artificial Grass On Concrete?

Absolutely! Artificial Grass Direct specialises in installations on various surfaces, including concrete. With the right preparation and installation techniques, we can transform concrete areas into lush, green spaces.

        05

What Is The Best Way To Lay Artificial Grass?

The best way to lay artificial grass depends upon the surface onto which you are laying it. You can visit our full guide on how to lay artificial grass here. It has a step-by-step guide as well as answers on how different surfaces change how you might approach the task.

If trying it yourself isn’t for you and you’d much rather get an experienced team in to help you, Artificial Grass Direct provides an installation service and we’d be happy to step in and help, give us a call today for more info: 01772629654.

        06

How Long Does Artificial Grass Last?

When properly maintained and cared for, artificial grass can last for around 20 years. However, it’s important to remember that certain factors such as blade material, backing bond, usage, and installation methods can reduce or extend this lifespan. We have a dedicated blog post exploring the lifespan of artificial grass which you can read now.

        07

Can I Lay Artificial Grass On Soil?

Yes, you can install artificial grass on soil. Proper preparation, including the use of a weed membrane and suitable base materials, ensures a stable and effective installation.

        08

Is Artificial Grass Good For Dogs?

Our artificial turf is non-toxic and synthetic-free, making it extremely suitable and safe for dogs and other pets. It also has excellent drainage to prevent staining, and antimicrobial protection for odour control. With artificial grass, you won’t need to use any pesticides and it also has an oval-shaped grass blade for your four-legged friend’s comfort and safety.

For complete peace of mind, read our blog on the subject of whether artificial grass is good for dogs.

        09

Can You Put Weed Killer On Artificial Grass?

Yes, you can put weed killer on synthetic turf but only if it is water-based and non-toxic. Also, fake grass is quite resistant to weeds so you shouldn’t need to use a weed killer, especially if you’ve used our guide on laying your turf.

If you use a different type of weed killer, then the synthetic fibres and backing of your fake grass could degrade or disintegrate. We also recommend adding a weed membrane when laying your turf to prevent weed growth.

        10

        Does Artificial Grass Get Hot?

Yes, artificial grass can get hot when in direct sunlight. As fake grass is made from synthetic materials, it can easily absorb and hold onto heat. Our pet friendly artificial grass is designed to counter this: It has a lighter colour shade, a lower pile height, and wide-shaped blades to reduce the surface temperature of the grass for dogs.
