Artificial Grass

Artificial grass is one of the most reliable ways to create a clean, consistent lawn without the constant work that comes with real turf. For many homeowners, it solves the same problems. Patches that never recover, mud after rain, and the time it takes to keep a lawn looking presentable. A well chosen artificial lawn removes those issues and gives you a surface that stays usable all year.

At Artificial Grass Direct, we supply artificial grass for gardens, pets, play areas and everyday outdoor use. Some customers want a simple, cost effective option that improves the look of their space. Others are looking for a softer, more natural finish that feels right. Our range covers both, from cheap artificial grass for practical upgrades through to denser, more refined and higher quality artificial turf designed for a fuller lawn effect.

If you are comparing options, you can explore by type, pile height or by application.

How To Choose The Right Artificial Grass

Choosing artificial grass is easier when you focus on the details that actually affect performance.

Pile Height

Pile Height

Shorter grass is easier to manage and keeps a neater finish. Longer grass gives a softer feel and a more relaxed look but may need a bit more upkeep to keep it looking its best.

Stitch Count

Stitch Count

Stitch count refers to how much fibre is packed into the surface. A denser artificial turf tends to look fuller and cope better with regular use. This is worth paying attention to in busy gardens.

Drainage

Drainage

Artificial grass is built with drainage holes in the backing. This allows water to pass through rather than sit on the surface. In UK weather, good drainage makes a noticeable difference, especially in areas used often.

Usage

Usage

A garden used by pets, a lawn for general use and a decorative space will all need slightly different features. Thinking about usage first helps you choose a product that fits properly.

Shop By Type

Choosing by type is often the quickest way to narrow things down.

Luxury Artificial Grass is suited to gardens where not only appearance but durability matter most. These products are fuller and softer, giving a more natural finish across larger areas but can also be enjoyed by the whole family.

Our Classic Artificial Grass offers a straightforward way to improve a space without a large spend. It works well in smaller gardens, side areas or projects where practicality comes first.

Pet Friendly Artificial Grass is designed with drainage and day to day use in mind. It is a popular choice for gardens which need to stay clean and are easy to manage even with both pets and children running around all summer long.

Sports Artificial Grass provides a shorter, more controlled surface for practice areas where more luxury fake grass would feel too long.

Buying Artificial Grass: What You Need to Know

Artificial grass is designed to give you a consistent lawn without the ongoing maintenance that real grass requires. Once installed on a proper base, it provides a surface that can be used throughout the year.

One of the most common questions is how long artificial grass lasts. A good quality product, installed correctly, can last for many years. The exact lifespan depends on how the space is used and how well it is looked after.

Pile height is often the first thing people compare. A longer pile can feel softer, but it is not always the best option. In many gardens, a mid range height provides a better balance between comfort and practicality.

Pet owners often ask whether artificial grass is suitable. In most cases it is, especially when using products designed for drainage and ease of cleaning. Regular rinsing and basic upkeep help preserve a fresh surface.

Drainage is handled through the backing of the grass. Water passes through into the base below, which helps the surface dry more quickly after rain. This is one of the reasons artificial turf works well in UK conditions.

Cost varies depending on the type of artificial grass chosen. Budget options offer a simple upgrade, while premium products provide a more refined finish. Many customers choose to order samples to compare different styles before making a final decision.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

At Artificial Grass Direct, we want our customers to make informed decisions before buying their dream false grass for any project. So, if you want to learn more about artificial grass: How to install it, and its benefits, take a look at our FAQs below for valuable insights and expert advice from the professionals on our team.

What Do You Put Under Artificial Grass?

You will need to put a base layer of crushed stone, gravel, or compacted soil as a sub base when laying artificial turf. The sub base stabilises the fake turf and helps it drain effectively.

We recommend adding between 50mm and 100mm of sub base, followed by 20-30mm of sharp sand. You can then use either a weed membraneshockpad underlay, or both on top for extra protection, followed by your chosen artificial grass.
